Purpose of Job


The Associate, Communications supports the delivery of high quality external communications that advance the Bank’s strategic objectives, protect and promote its reputation, and present its activities and impact clearly and effectively to target audiences.

Based in Warsaw, the Associate, Communications serves as the communications lead for EBRD’s selected regions of operations including Poland, Romania and the Baltic states. Under the oversight of the Principal, Communications, the Associate is responsible for coordinating and delivering external communications, including media engagements and multi channel output, relating to the Bank’s activities, strategic objectives, investments and impact.
The role requires strong writing, media relations and digital skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced, multinational environment.

 

Key responsibilities include: 


•    Drafting and editing a wide range of communications materials, including press releases, media statements, feature stories, newsletters, social media content and website content.
•    Developing and maintaining strong relationships with local and international media outlets and journalists 
•    Generating media coverage and visibility for the EBRD in selected countries through proactive media engagement.
•    Responding to media enquiries effectively, accurately and quickly, ensuring that responses properly reflect the EBRD’s institutional position and support its reputation.
•    Preparing briefing materials, talking points, Q&As, speeches and media lines for senior leadership.
•    Providing strategic communications counsel to senior internal stakeholders as required.
•    Monitoring media, political and stakeholder developments relevant to the Bank and identifying opportunities to strengthen the EBRD’s profile and influence.
•    Supporting content publication and website updates on ebrd.com. 

 

The role sits within the Communications Department.

 

Accountabilities & Responsibilities
The Associate, Communications is accountable for the following core responsibilities:

 

Communications delivery


•    Produce clear, accurate and engaging communications content aligned with the Bank’s strategy and brand
•    Support the delivery of communications across relevant channels, including digital platforms, publications, campaigns and events
•    Adapt content appropriately for different audiences and formats

 

Editorial and content support


•    Research, draft, edit and update communications materials, ensuring accuracy, consistency and timeliness
•    Apply editorial standards and brand guidelines consistently
•    Identify stories, themes and opportunities that support communications objectives

 

Planning and coordination


•    Support the planning and coordination of communications activities within the media relations team 
•    Manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively, flagging risks or issues as appropriate
•    Contribute to the evaluation of communications outputs and their impact

 

Stakeholder engagement


•    Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders across departments and Resident Offices
•    Engage with media, external partners, and other stakeholders where required 
•    Support meetings, briefings and events as required

 

Collaboration and professional conduct


•    Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Communications Department
•    Demonstrate initiative, reliability and good judgement in day to day work
•    Uphold the Bank’s Behavioural Competencies and standards of integrity and professionalism

 

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications


Academic / Professional Qualifications


•    University degree in communications, journalism, media, international relations or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
Experience
•    At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in media relations, communications or a related field
•    Demonstrable knowledge of the CEE media landscape, including a strong news sense and awareness of the political environment

•    Excellent knowledge of the CEE media market, with particular expertise in the Polish and Ukrainian media landscapes, is essential
•    Proven track record of delivering media coverage and communications outputs under pressure
•    Demonstrable writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and effective written communications within agreed timescales
•    Experience working with senior stakeholders and handling sensitive or complex material

 

Technical professional skills


•    Strong written and verbal communication skills in English language. Polish and/or Ukranian would be a plus 
•    Good editorial judgement and attention to detail
•    Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines
•    Strong organisational and time management skills
•    Effective interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
•    Digital literacy and ability to work across modern communications platforms
•    Ability to work independently while recognising when to seek guidance
