The Operations Banking/Treasury teams within Controller’s are responsible for the management of all Banking/Treasury transactions from inception to maturity across all global markets. 

 

This requires the interpretation of complex legal documentation, trade structures and funding requirements to ensure the accurate capture in the Bank’s Treasury and Accounting systems, which in turn feed data to the Bank’s Banking and Risk systems, thereby enabling the measurement of client/counterparty risk and the application of limits and controls as appropriate.

 

This role interacts with a wide cross section of both internal departments and external organisations to ensure the Bank’s transactions are processed and settled in an accurate and timely manner across multiple markets and several time zones without exposing the Bank to unnecessary operational or reputational risk. 

 

As acknowledged deputy to the Associate Director in one of the Bank’s three Operations teams who, between them, are responsible for the accurate and timely processing, settlement and management of EBRD’s Banking/Treasury products in the global markets, this person typically performs the more complex on-going tasks within the team. They also assist the Associate Director in the training development of less experienced members of the team and carry out formal appraisal of the team.

 

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

 

  • Deputises for Senior Manager
  • Conducts analysis of non-standard and complex transactions to understand the underlying risks, mitigate costs and identify potential solutions
  • Undertakes investigations and inspections of data, processes and practices in accordance with established procedure to identify potential or actual compliance issues and recommend appropriate action
  • Supervises, trains, reviews and gives feedback to the team and undertakes the completion of more complex tasks as required, contributing to the team’s ability to meet its objectives
  • Reviews transactions for compliance with Bank rules and regulations ensuring the bank is not exposed to unnecessary reputational risk.
  • Propagates continuous improvement of current policies and procedures and presents and reviews recommendations
  • Reviews draft manuals based on the accepted changes to policies and procedures, to ensure that they are up to date and reflects the new policies
  • Provides guidance to internal clients relating to own practice area, by being focal point of contact, to ensure there is no misalignment between policy and practice
  • Contributes to the development of procedures within own area of specialism to ensure the function best responds to the Bank’s needs
  • Liaises with senior internal and external auditors and responds to queries
  • Ensures that the team’s Internal Controls Framework is - and remains – appropriate and is understood and adhered to by staff
  • Assists  formal appraisal/recruitment process
  • Represents the business on IT upgrades
  • Reviews and signs off on the accuracy of all team members work

 

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent work experience
  • Extensive market knowledge
  • Fluent English language skills, both verbal and written
  • Managerial/supervisory experience is essential
  • Confident and articulate spokesperson for team with ability to influence
  • Excellent knowledge of the full range of Bank/Treasury products and ability to settle trades in any of the global markets
  • Significant knowledge and understanding of the Bank as a whole, outside of relevant team/department
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on Excel
  • Experience with Summit, Frameworks, TCS, FDR, OMS, SAP R3 and SWIFT systems
  • Additional relevant language would be beneficial
  • Significant experience in a relevant Operations department
  • Working knowledge of Legal documentation
  • Fully competent in own practice area
