The Associate Director, Internal Audit, is responsible for timely execution of audit engagements in line with the Internal Audit Department‘s periodic risk-based audit plan to provide assurance to Executive Management and the Board of Directors on the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, governance and risk management, in place to monitor, manage and mitigate the key risks stemming from CSG area, though not exclusively to the EBRD. This involves significant engagement with senior stakeholders including business monitoring and supporting the IAD leadership in ensuring the smooth setting, running and delivery of the work programme.




  • Ensures delivery of assigned activities in a timely manner and to the required level of quality, in accordance with Institute of Internal Auditors’ standards, Code of Ethics and related guidance, and promote the correct application of these pronouncements to other team members under their supervision.
  • Identifies and assess audit risk areas in their assigned portfolio of coverage.
  • Assists the IAD team in specific responsibilities and tasks, including the supervision of other team members (incl. guest auditors and co-sourcing staff) and consulting work, as assigned by IAD leadership team.
  • Ensures timely and adequate validation of all CSG audit issues.
  • Lead to the performance of specific audit engagements assigned, including identifying key risks; devising and recommending an audit engagement plan; performing and/or supervising the fieldwork within the agreed schedule; discussing areas for improvement with the business and assisting in the development of feasible recommendations; and producing high quality audit reports.
  • Assist the Director, CSG, Internal Audit in providing opinions on the status of the control environment to mitigate the range of key risks impacting the Bank.
  • Assist the Director, CSG, Internal Audit in developing and implementing strategies to use data analytics as well as monitor and provide assurance over key change initiatives in CSG area.
  • Assist the Director, CSG, Internal Audit in ensuring that the IAD is continuously improving and meets the evolving expectations of the Institute of Internal Auditors standards.
  • Develop open and constructive working relationships with key stakeholders (up to Managing Director level) and in doing so be an influential partner providing insights on matters of governance, risk and control.
  • Keep abreast of relevant industry and organisational developments to ensure the completeness of IAD’s audit universe and related risk assessment process.


Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications


  • University degree or equivalent, preferably with a finance, business or law focus, and other relevant post graduate degree and relevant professional qualification such as CIA/PIA, ACA, ACCA, CPA.Extensive relevant post-qualification experience in an internal audit environment.
  • Specific experience of providing assurance over front office banking and donor funded operations, with proven skills in auditing project financing, credit skills, and compliance, including some knowledge of front to back (end-to-end) banking processes.
  • Proven track record of effective and efficient delivery of multiple competing tasks to time and quality, with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrable analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong personal integrity, a commitment to highest ethical standards, and the ability to always strive for excellence and be accountable for the performance of assigned tasks.
  • Strong technical competence in the subject matter of the assigned work, as well as appropriate judgement in identifying and addressing issues and emerging risks.
  • The ability to balance diplomacy with assertiveness, as well as to identify and deal with particularly difficult or complex issues in a straightforward manner, recognising own limitations and knowing when to seek the advice or assistance from others.
  • Demonstrated efficiency and persistence, and ensure that agreed objectives and deadlines are achieved even when faced with problems, challenges and pressure.
  • Proven ability to engage with and influence senior stakeholders, using sound professional judgement to broker co-operation and facilitate timely delivery of activities.
  • Team player, able to work effectively with others (including co-source partners and guest auditors) in a matrix environment
