Purpose of Job

The Associate, Knowledge and Innovation Lawyer will contribute to the success of OGC through the creation and management of the department’s knowledge resources and the design and implementation of innovative digitalisation and process improvement initiatives.

 

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Head of Legal Operations and Portfolio, responsibility for:

  • managing and updating OGC’s template library, including legal drafting, conducting legal research, consulting with internal and external legal experts, and restructuring templates to ensure consistency and prepare for greater automation in legal drafting;
  • facilitating the capture and sharing of knowledge through writing legal content together with subject matter experts within OGC, as well as proactively rationalising and improving (through collaboration with departmental subject matter experts as well as independently) OGC’s existing body of legal knowledge;
  • assisting with implementing and managing the Bank’s digitalisation initiatives, including matter management, electronic signature and digital recordkeeping technologies;
  • assisting with the assessment of new technologies (particularly relating to document automation and legal AI) that can be used within OGC, and developing legal use cases;
  • assisting with the management of a library and information system budget of circa GBP 160,000 per annum;
  • maintaining, updating and expanding OGC’s knowledge management systems, including management of subscription services; and 
  • coordinating training provided to new joiners, presentations made by external speakers, and training on digital tools provided by EBRD’s technology experts as well as external vendors.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

        Candidates are expected to have:

  • a law degree from a leading university in their home country;
  • at least three years of legal experience gained in an international law firm, the in-house legal department of a commercial/investment bank, or international organisation (including EBRD);
  • relevant professional experience as a lawyer working on English law governed financing agreements;
  • an excellent command of the English language, including excellent skills to draft legal documents in English. A command of Arabic, French, Turkish, Russian, or other language of the EBRD's countries of operations is an advantage;
  • a strong growth mindset and demonstrated interest in acquiring new skills and capabilities, including those relating to process improvement, change management, digital technologies and design thinking;
  • a strong desire to embrace and support change, and to identify new and useful ideas and to develop them and make them work in practice; and
  • excellent negotiation and project management skills as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
