About the Role
We are looking for a motivated Associate to join our Environment and Sustainability Department (ESD). In this role, you will independently support the Bank’s Environmental and Social Policy (ESP) commitments, focusing on environmental and social appraisal, monitoring, and reporting for projects and activities across various sectors, primarily mining and biofuels, but also manufacturing and services, agribusiness, energy and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess project environmental and social risks and impacts, and ESP compliance.
- Assess project alignment with the Paris Agreement and green finance attribution.
- Align projects with the ESP and monitor implementation.
- Conduct analytical, scientific, and technical reviews and appraisals, develop methodologies, and manage data.
- Support negotiation of environmental and social contract terms and contribute to internal and external publications.
- Coordinate meetings and events, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Build internal and external capacity by producing fact sheets and delivering brief information sessions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes, data management, and reporting methodologies.
- Work in line with the Bank’s Behavioural Competencies and Corporate Behaviours.
What We Are Looking For
- A degree in environmental and/or social sciences, economics, engineering, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in appraising environmental and social risks and impacts across various projects and sectors.
- Experience appraising environmental and social risks and impacts in the mining sector.
- Experience working on environmental topic areas, e.g. biodiversity, air and water pollution.
- Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa will be an advantage.
- Experience applying international environmental and social standards (e.g., EBRD Environmental and Social Requirements, IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles).
- Familiarity with financing instruments and environmental and social policy areas.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and in a team.
- Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages of EBRD countries of operation are advantageous.
