Purpose of Job
The EBRD works with a range of donors and partners, such as the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), to address climate change and environmental degradation across its countries of operation.
Within the Green Partnerships team of the Donor Partnerships department, the Analyst contributes to managing and growing the Bank’s engagement with multilateral climate and environmental funds.
The Analyst will contribute and provide solutions to a wide spectrum of issues, including supporting the design and structuring of funding proposals, amongst others, to access funding mobilized by the CIF’s Capital Markets Mechanism (CCMM), as well as supporting the deployment of such resources.
The role interacts with different departments within EBRD. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and problem-solver with a can-do entrepreneurial attitude, will have knowledge and experience on blended finance, and ideally also an understanding of the climate and nature finance architecture.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
The Analyst will be responsible for:
Creation & Design:
• Working with EBRD teams to assist in the curation of a pipeline to access donor funding, including funding mobilized by CCMM.
• Supporting the preparation of project proposals, and supporting donor outreach and engagement, to secure new contributions.
• Supporting the design of innovative blended finance structures that can attract untapped concessional resources to address climate and environmental issues.
Analysis & Opportunity Scoping:
• Continuously map and stay abreast of EBRD’s sectorial, geographical, and thematic needs for donor resources.
• Carrying out background research on existing and emerging donor priorities.
• Analyse how other relevant financial institutions use of blended finance products and structures to advance nature and climate financing.
• Scan the landscape and follow international debates on blended finance to identify engagement opportunities and bring this knowledge into the Bank.
• Assisting with the preparation of analytical briefings, documents, and presentations.
Internal Engagement & Management:
• Supporting Banking and other teams in deploying donor funds and securing necessary internal & external approvals for new projects and initiatives.
• Working with teams across the Bank to anticipate and address funding needs.
• Staying abreast and reviewing the existing portfolio to understand current funding gaps/needs and potential bottlenecks.
• Assisting the implementation of ongoing programmes/projects, incl. ensuring alignment with donor agreements, policies and procedures.
• In close collaboration with EBRD’s Blended Finance Hub, capturing, analysing, and disseminating knowledge products on blended finance internally and provide thought leadership on the topics of blended concessional finance.
The responsibilities of the Analyst are designed to allow the Analyst to progressively undertake more complex tasks and build the scope of responsibilities based on acquired experience and expertise.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Master’s degree in economics, finance, international development, environmental and social sciences or related discipline.
• Experience in developing and managing projects and programmes on climate and nature finance.
• Understanding of Blended Finance and how concessional finance is deployed in an International Financial Institution (IFI), ideally for nature and climate related activities.
• Prior exposure to managing donor relationships and fundraising.
• Ability to think strategically and outside the box to drive change and expand EBRD’s product offering to clients, donors and partners.
• Self-starter and problem-solver with a can-do entrepreneurial attitude.
• Excellent project/programme management, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Strong inter-personal management skills, including ability to work across departments.
