Purpose of Job

The Intern is a member of the Country Economics, Strategy and Policy team (CESP) of the Policy Strategy and Delivery (PSD) Department of the Vice Presidency Policy & Partnerships, reporting to the Principal Economist.

 

The Intern provides support to the team on macroeconomic and structural reform analysis and policy advice for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and the West Bank and Gaza).

 

The role will involve liaising with other teams within the Bank, both in the Cairo Resident Office and elsewhere.

 

Accoutabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Monitoring data releases to maintain CESP’s databases on the region and monitoring local media and commercial sources about economic and policy developments in the region;
  • Supporting the team in drafting contributions for the department’s regular publications, including country briefing notes, the Regional Economic Prospects, et cetera;
  • Supporting the team in preparing regular growth forecasts and long-term macroeconomic scenarios to be used in the Banking department’s financial models;
  • Providing input for presentations to be delivered in the Bank and to outside audiences;
  • Taking initiative in contributing to position papers, policy notes and briefings.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in economics or a related field;
  • Relevant experience in the region;
  • The ability to show initiative and take the lead on certain tasks is essential;
  • Strong analytical and quantitative background and familiarity with economic programming and policies;
  • Experience working with economic datasets and knowledge of statistical software packages, Microsoft Excel;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Arabic or French;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in teams;
  • Motivation, attention to detail, common sense and ability to work to tight deadlines;
  • Ability to operate sensitively and effectively in a multicultural environment;
