Invest your career in changing lives – EBRD’s early career opportunities

Are you currently studying or a recent graduate planning your next steps? Do you want to make a positive difference in the world? Are you excited by the thought of working with talented individuals from across the globe on life-changing projects?

If you’re nodding along to these questions and you think you have what it takes to help us develop and implement innovative solutions to international development challenges, then read on to see if the EBRD and our early careers opportunities are for you.

Who are we? “It’s Banking, but not as you know it”

At the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), we invest in projects that transform economies and change lives. We’re active in more than 30 countries and our operations span a range of industries and sectors, including agribusiness, manufacturing, transport projects, infrastructure, financial institutions and renewable energy. Our work goes far beyond that of a typical international financial institution and our people are every bit as unique.

What are we offering? “Our International Professionals Programme – not your average 9-5”

Our 24-month International Professionals Programme (IPP) is an immersive, focused and supportive programme for graduates to unleash their potential and kick-start a career at the EBRD.

The IPP is made up of assignments designed to provide meaningful, hands on experience with the opportunity to develop your skills alongside top subject matter experts in a range of fields. There will be rotations through departments relevant to your specialism, including an assignment to one of our Resident Offices, deepening your understanding of and engagement with the EBRD’s mission and impact in our countries of operations.

During the programme you will undertake a tailored learning and development plan which encompasses in-depth technical training as well as personal and business skills development. You will be supported by your line manager, a mentor and a dedicated Programme Manager.

We have positions available in the following areas:

  • Banking
  • Digital Transformation
  • Risk
  • Climate Strategy & Delivery
  • Evaluation
  • Finance
  • Operations
  • HR & OD
  • Communications
  • IT

A 5-star experience

To get an insider’s view on what it’s like to be part of the International Professionals Programme, watch this video: IPP and read the below comments from previous participants:

“My experience at the EBRD so far has been extraordinary and I can recommend the IPP without hesitation. I have the impression that my colleagues genuinely appreciate my work. I had the chance to work on new transactions from the first week and was able to get exposure to a wide range of different business areas, client sectors and geographical regions. Something that appealed to me in particular, is the openness to new ideas and how enthusiastically some of my suggestions have been taken on board.”

“Being part of the IPP means working on all stages of the project cycle, getting unique experience across sectors and countries. Rotations give you a great chance to work with outstanding people and better understand the Bank’s mission.”

“The programme would be a perfect fit for anyone who enjoys working in a truly multicultural environment and appreciates learning about new concepts on a daily basis. The variety of countries, sectors and innovative ideas is exhilarating and almost impossible to find anywhere else. Be ready for an adventure!”

What are we looking for? “We embrace difference, to make a difference”

In addition to initiative and a sense of adventure, we are looking for diverse candidates who have the following:

  • A recent degree in a relevant field (these are outlined in the respective requirements for each role advertised).
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Another language is desirable.
  • You must be a national of one of our shareholder countries.
  • A keen interest in international development, private sector development, and field-based practical work.
  • An eagerness to work in any of our countries of operations during the programme and your future career with the Bank.
  • Results-driven with an open and flexible attitude towards change.
  • Six to twelve months’ experience of working, travelling, or volunteering.

What do we offer? Rewards and Benefits

As well as the opportunity to help deliver projects that shape the future of our countries of operations, you can expect an attractive rewards package. So in addition to a competitive starting salary, some of your benefits include:

  • Comprehensive medical insurance
  • 25 days’ annual leave
  • Relocation assistance (where applicable)

Visa Assistance

Due to the nature of our organisation, nationals of our shareholder countries do not need an existing work visa.  We operate under a visa exemption vignette scheme.

Interested?

If you’re as excited as we are about this programme, we want to hear from you. Go to our vacancies page to find more information on each of the available roles and how to apply. The application process will consist of an online application form with CV, online assessments, a video interview and an assessment centre.

Before you start your application, please note that alternative formats are available on request. If you require an adjustment or alternative to our standard application process, please email IPP@ebrd.com and we will contact you to discuss any requirements or concerns you might have.

We invest in changing lives, you could too!

Internships

We advertise regularly for internship opportunities across the EBRD, rather than recruiting at a specific time of year. These roles provide a great insight into the Bank’s work and, in the right circumstances, can lead to a longer-term career at the EBRD.

Why not take a look at the current list of vacancies and register for job alerts so that we can notify you when new internship roles become available?

If you are interested in coming to meet us directly and find out more about what it’s like to work for the EBRD, please check back here regularly to stay informed about careers events we are attending.
