Purpose of Job


The Principal, Portfolio Management - Credit is a high grade bond market and associated derivatives expert who is partially responsible for Treasury’s long dated and short dated investment strategies within constraints set by the investment process and the conservative parameters contained within the Treasury Authority and respective Guidelines.


Accountabilities & Responsibilities


The Principal, PMC will:

  • Help to meet the P&L targets for PMC within the risk constraints set for them and the operational guidelines outlined in the Treasury Authority & Treasury Guidelines [“TA&TG”], in conjunction with any soft targets that the business may require such as commencing business in new asset classes.


  • Transact on behalf of the bank within the agreed PMC investment strategies, the risk constraints set for them, and the operational guidelines outlined in the TA&TG, and whilst always taking into account the most current credit related factors relating to the investment.


  • Begin to formulate, communicate and ultimately implement investment strategies under the supervision of the Director.


  • Be the eyes & ears of Treasury and the Bank in relevant markets. This includes all relevant regulatory, political and economic developments with a particular emphasis on supporting the Director in this effort.


  • Develop relationships with “the street” (inter-dealer brokers and investment banks as necessary) to facilitate the implementation of the PMC investment strategies, to develop insight into the characteristics of the markets we cover, to understand how bond, OTC & exchange traded markets are evolving in the face of new regulations, and to ensure counterparty lines and relevant documentation are in place for us to operate.


  • Develop relationships internally to facilitate and where possible improve business:
    • Middle office – trade amendments, internal bookings
    • Accounting – P&L reconciliation and estimates
    • Operations –resolution of trade settlement issues, confirmations, & corporate actions.
    • Risk Management – develop relationships with credit officers
    • CRM – advise as necessary in the execution of client-related business
    • OGC – assist as necessary in the evaluation of liability management exercises or other corporate actions, renewal of CSAs and any other documentationrelating to Dodd-Frank,


Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience.  Master’s degree desirable.


Significant proven financial markets experience, ideally in a major financial institution.


Demonstrable established knowledge of high grade bond markets, their dynamics and inter-linkages, preferably gained via trading / execution or a Treasury role.


A solid understanding of all relevant products: non-structured and structured bonds, vanilla interest rate derivatives (IRS etc.); cross currency basis swaps, asset swap packages etc.


Significant experience in the use of relevant systems and applications including Bloomberg, Excel (some VBA), Summit, Powerpoint, Outlook.


Proven strong verbal and written communication skills in English
