Within the TMT team, the Associate Director, Head of the Venture Capital Investment Programme (the “Head”, “VCIP”) has responsibility for the VCIP Team’s investment activities conducted across the Bank’s CoOs. The incumbent is responsible for the delivery of the VCIP Team’s business plan; engagement with the business community to develop business; supervision of the origination, structuring and implementation of EBRD direct venture capital and venture debt investments involving multiple counterparties. The Associate Directors within VCIP (including the Head) will report to the Director TMT and VCIP as their line manager. The role also supports EBRD policy reform efforts to promote EBRD’s mandate; develops and maintains high level relationships externally with management teams, co-investors, , and other stakeholders in the venture capital ecosystem.  Close collaboration internally with a range of functions within the EBRD is also a key premise of this role.

Background

Venture Capital Investment Programme (“VCIP”; http://www.ebrdvcip.com) is the key product of EBRD in helping to develop the venture capital market in the EBRD countries of operation. The VCIP investment strategy is to identify and support with financing, together with co-investors, high quality entrepreneurs and management teams with innovative technologies and business models, compelling intellectual property and deep market knowledge in the Bank’s countries of operation, as they move from product development to commercialization, or from an early revenue stage to a much larger market opportunity. Given the high-risk and high return profile of the intended investments, VCIP is being managed as a set of separate frameworks, which define the investment criteria, with an independent Advisory Committee, consisting currently of three external members and one internal member.

VCIP is an independent team within TMT dedicated to origination, structuring, execution, implementation and monitoring venture capital and venture debt investments. Its day-to-day operations are guided by a venture capital and venture debt strategy. The team is centralized at HQ. Close collaboration with senior colleagues in Resident Offices as well as with Sector, Equity and Policy teams within the Bank’s matrix structure will be critical to business delivery.
